One of the great things about smoking weed is that when you find other people who also smoke there is an instant connection. Marijuana is still very much considered to be "icky" in most places, public tolerance for weed is much lower than tolerance for say alcohol consumption. Finding other people who also consume marijuana- be it via smoking or edibles-can be a great foundation for friendship, especially with other women. I am a young professional and many of my collogues also consume weed, we are all very determined people and there is a lot riding on the work that we do; but smoking is not considered to be something that modern professionals do. While vaping has become more common, especially with younger individuals, smoking weed is still going "too far" for many even though you cannot become chemically addicted to marijuana but you 100% can become addicted to nicotine.
For women it can be more anxiety inducing than fun to go to a bar and order drinks, where you run the risk of someone slipping something into your beverage and taking advantage of you in a vulnerable state. Not to say that there are not also risks associated with marijuana consumption, however if you live in a state where it is legal for adults over the age of 21 to purchase weed for medical or recreational reasons you can go to the dispensary where product is regulated. For me, I would way rather hang out at home with my girlfriends and spark up while watching Pitch Perfect than go to a noisy bar where gross men are going to try and hit on me.
There is something to be said about finding a sisterhood within the smoking community. Maybe you are like me and you also enjoy crafting, smoking a bowl and then working on a puzzle with my friend can provide us a comfortable environment to talk about what is going on in our lives. Marijuana lowers our inhibitions similarly to alcohol, although for me personally I find I am sometimes more capable of completing tasks when I am high vs sober. When we are relaxed we are more willing to open up to those around us, giving us the opportunity to deepen our connection to one another not just as friends but as women. The ritual of smoking, cleaning and then packing a new bowl also brings the promise of new topics and intrigues. Something that I find interesting about smoking is the act of packing the bowl, more specifically packing the bowl for another person or even a bowl that is going to be shared. You have to break the flower up and push it into the grinder, take the time to pulverize the herb, and then pack the bowl with care so that you do not waste any bud. While doing this you are surely thinking to yourself that you want to do these steps correctly so that your experience is as good as possible, in a way I consider this to be a small act of love. I only let people I trust touch my weed, let alone pack the bowl. My hope is that through the sharing of bud we also share our stories and start to build a sisterhood of smokers.
